WELCOME
(6/22/06) These rules have been simplified which means violators will be banned and there will be no courtesy warnings required of Moderators if you are in violation. Violators will be banned and duplicate accounts will be terminated. When you click "I AGREE" to these rules in this account registration process and you willfully disregard them, that is a direct insult to the community and a complete waste of Moderator's time (not to mention your own). Posting on SFI is a privilege and not a right; conduct yourself as if you were in someone's living room or dojo. Do not join this website's forums if you are not serious about our Rules, Code of Conduct, Policies and Legal Information.

1. REAL FULL NAMES FOR USER IDs. Real name required for User I.D. Because this is an educational website with certain academic forums and communities within, you must be willing to use a REAL NAME for a user I.D. Nicknames will not be tolerated. All registrations are approved within 24-96 hours by real people who study profiles and cross reference names to see if they are Japanese anime monikers or what-not.

2. MODERATED ENVIRONMENT. You must agree that this is a moderated environment. This is not an "anything goes" website. This is an international community website that is moderated to ensure that the environment can be enjoyed by all and therefore "free speech" does not apply here.
3. REAL E-MAIL ADDRESS. Be prepared to provide a real e-mail address so that a Registration Confirmation E-mail can be sent to you. You will need to respond to that e-mail in order for your account to be activated. It may take 1-3 days due to manual processing becuase WE DELETE NICKNAME ACCOUNTS. CODE OF CONDUCT
1. Be warm and friendly. This is are first and foremost rule, and any violation of this rule after you click "I AGREE" will result in account termination. Disrespect, rudeness, impatience, anger, snide remarks, sideswiping attacks, trolling, cynicism, and poor attitudes are not welcome here. If you can't manage your own etiquette and tact, don't post here. We will gladly ban the rule violator in favor of the other readers who are willing to be on their best behavior. This community functions like a large family. Act as if you were in a dojo or in someone's living room. Use common sense and common courtesy. Be on your best behavior. This is a family-friendly website. No pornographic links or images, no spam, no discussion of firearms (this is a sword forum; use a gun forum for gun discussions please), no discussion of politics, and please never attack someone's religious or spiritual beliefs.
2. No politics. The politics of another website stay on that website. Keep politics off of SFI. Attacks intended to intimidate, undermine or that demean or devalue will not be tolerated and will result account termination. Baiting any participant on SFI to respond and then attacking their response on SFI or on another website involves both websites and this will result in account termination. If your post caused trouble and got deleted and as a result you got yourself banned, be forewarned about spreading propaganda on other sword discussion websites with whom we may have a relationship. If you got banned for blatant rule violation it's your own fault. Political attacks, trolling, baiting, insinuating, etc. are violation of Rule #1: Be warm and friendly. If you can't be warm and friendly, go somewhere else.
ADVERTISING POLICY
Please do not post spam and do not indiscriminately post ads or promotional links to a business website or forum. If you are an individual artist, sword maker or craftsman who is not involved in retail and not involved in manufacturing and your team is less than 5 people, you may use a signature link and use the forums to network discretely. Wholesalers, retailers, businesses, martial arts schools, etc. are encouraged to support SFI through advertising, as we operate this out of pocket to promote the industry. Thus please do not have others post in proxy of you. Kind donations are also welcomed and appreciated. If you are a martial arts organization seeking to promote an event, please post that event in our calendar. You may make a post in the forums pointing to the calendar post. Everyone, please use discretion. Anything seen as blatant use of SFI as a free promotional advertising tool will result in account termination. SFI was established to preserve the historical traditions of all facets of the crafting of authentic swords. Part of that mandate seeks to promote individual craftsmen (as well as those who have become Honorary Educational Advisors here on SFI) who do not have the same marketing budgets as medium- or large-sized businesses.
