the kumdo you're talking about is the pre war kendo. the post war or modern kendo is very different from the pre war kendo. if you go to japanese occupied areas, taiwan for example, you may still find some old generation kendokas doing pre war kendo, which has more kenjutsu stuffs and also more violent. so, in a way, kumdo is japanese kendo. btw, where do you guys do kumdo?
