JAPANESE SWORDS: Moroha Zukuri

The moroha-zukuri (pronounced "moh-roh-hah zoo-koo-ree") is a less frequently-occuring design or style than both shinogi-zukuri (common for katana and tachi) and hira-zukuri (common for wakizashi, tanto and aikuchu). The moroha-zukuri blade tapers to a slender point. Sectionally it is more like a diamond. Its ridge is more centrally located, and the back generally sports a edge. This dual edged blade may support a hamon (temper line) and yakiire (hardened edge) on both sides. Typically the blade is curved such that the blade curves away from the primary edge of the sword.
