Troubleshooting and Technical F.A.Q.

11/10/06: We have recently performed a major software update to the forums. This impact your ability to log in. Almost all these instructions have been updated so please read this section carefully. If you e-mail us without reading this, we'll simply direct you back to this page.

QUICK FIXES

The following checklist will help solve most problems you may have with respect to logging in and posting (or your inabiliyt to do so).

1. The Forum System is a new version. You now log onto the forums. Go to the top/root of this site. On the link on the right click "Forums". When you're on the forums page, beneath the "Sword Forum International" logo and to the right are two fields for User Name and Password. Also click the "Remember me".

2. Some of you may have issues with cookies. First, cookies are required because they keep state of your login and remember you to allow you to post. To enable cookies:

Microsoft Internet Explorer: Click "Tools" and "Internet Options".

a. First clear your cookies by clicking "Delete Cookies". If your cookies are trained on our previous forums, those cookies are incompatable with this current new software version.

b. Next, on that popup window entitled "Internet Options" there are seven tabs. Click the second one, marked "Security". The earth globe marked "Internet" should be highlighted. Your browser setting should be set to MEDIUM.

Mozilla / Firefox:

Click "Tools" and "Options". The "Privacy" tab marked with a gold padlock should already be highlighted. Of the several tabs below there is one called "Cookies". Select that if not already selected. You can do one of two things:

a. Check the box marked "Allow sites to set Cookies"

b. If you have this box unchecked on purpose, then add "swordforum.com" and "forums.swordforum.com" to your Exceptions list.

3. If you can't log in and the system says, "You have entered an invalid name or password" then one of three things may have happened:

a. You typed your user name wrong. Try checking your "Caps Lock" key because the password is case sensitive meaning "GUMBO123" and "gumbo123" are seen entirely differently due to capitalization.

b. Your user I.D. deleted because it didn't follow our REAL NAME format. Did you receive a deletion notice from our system? If so, did it say you registered using a nickname? If you didn't follow our REAL NAME rules, then you deserve to be deleted. If you're honest with us and will register using a real name, we'll let you re-register and try again. We were VERY CLEAR on what valid format we expect, which is FirstName plus a LastName; either can be an initial. We prefer a full name. Just "John" or "John983" are unacceptable. No nicknames EVER. This is not a kids' site.
